Just bought a second hand copy of ROCKET?
CAN YOU PROVE IT?
As video/DVD stores come and go, there’s a thriving market in second hand copies of ROCKET, and that’s fine by us. But if you are such a seller or a purchaser there are certain things you must do when you sell or buy a licence to ensure you remain within the law, and don’t fall foul of the software piracy provisions of the Australian Copyright Act or appropriate international treaties.
You are not permitted to make any copies of your ROCKET software (and that includes not running it at more than one geographic location), and you agree to this as part of your licence conditions. If you want to sell your ROCKET you must:
● Ensure that the software is removed from your computer
● Pass across to the other party the master disks, manuals and all other documentation related to the software
The Copyright Act provides that a reproduction copy of your ROCKET software can be made to allow the running of the program; that is, the copy that is made when you load the program off your master disk onto your computer. However, it is illegal to allow that reproduction copy to be used by anyone else or for you to dispose of it or copy it.
So, if you don’t have the master disks (of the latest version that’s been sold/issued to you) you don’t have anything to sell. Possibly someone else has them, and not only are you selling a pirate copy, you could also create problems for the purchaser. Without master disks they cannot reload the program after, say, a machine crash or hardware upgrade, or upgrade their software. That could leave you open to legal action by the purchaser.
PLEASE NOTE: Some copies of ROCKET are made available under a rental, lease or perpetual licence scheme. Such software may not be sold, disposed of or made available to any other person. To do so will make the licence invalid, and the software will become inoperable.
Software piracy covers the acts of copying software, dealing in, buying or using pirated software, or even just knowing about pirated software. If you copy or use illegal software in your business you are committing a criminal offence, and face penalties of up to $467,500 in fines and/or up to five years imprisonment.
But there’s a simple solution: complete and send to us the ROCKET Change of Ownership form, by which both parties acknowledge the sale or transfer of the software and who now has the legal right to use the program.
To get a copy of this form just call us on +612-9634 8900, or fax +612-9634 8922, or simply click on the link below.
Important point: When returning the completed and signed forms to us by mail or fax, you must also include the software registration details as shown on the ROCKET master disk, or attach a photocopy of the disk.
